AgWest Farm Credit is a member-owned banking company in the Western United States that helps farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, commercial fishing, wood producers, rural homes, and people who buy crop insurance get loans and other services. AgriWest is a part of the Farm Credit System, which has been around for more than 100 years and is the biggest lender to American farms.

AgWest fights for the progress and growth of agriculture, the importance of rural areas, and the important role our customers play in the business and society. We have 59 sites in the West where we serve people.

We need an Insurance Agent I or II to work in our Oregon Lending and Insurance office in The Dalles, Oregon. This full-time job reports to the SVP of Insurance and is in charge of giving customers high-quality, profitable, and helpful insurance products and related services, keeping up a high level of proactive marketing and portfolio management, and making the company look good to customers, insurance professionals, and the public through actions.

After the initial training period, this job can get a split work plan and a one-time home office pay.

Information about pay

In The Dalles, Oregon, the range of starting pay for this job is:

Level I: $63,000 to $95,000/year; 12% of pay bonus at goal.

Level II: $69,000 to $108,000; 15% of pay is added as a bonus when goals are met.

Needs for the Job

  • Market and sell insurance goods by talking to customers and getting information from them in and out of the office.
  • Actively seek sales from people who can refer you, including your own employees. Direct letter efforts, groups, and calls may also help them find sales leads.
  • Build trust with customers and other professionals in the field by teaching customers about crop insurance, clearly explaining rates, fees, terms, and time frames, always meeting deadlines and product expectations, and making sure all customers and others are happy with the service and final product.
  • Interview people in person, over the phone, or on the Internet to get the information you need. Read and understand information about production that comes from a number of places, such as customer records and tax records.
  • Follow the requirements, deadlines, processes, laws, and rules for Federal and Approved Insurance Provider (AIP) paperwork submissions.
  • Maintain your State Agent’s License by going to the needed workshops and training sessions for ongoing education.
  • Help insurance reps solve policy problems that affect the producer’s insurance benefits.
  • Communicates effectively to ensure great customer service and tries to make sure the given business makes money.
  • Share AgWest’s beliefs, goal, and purpose with workers, buyers, the public, and other groups that you want to reach. This could mean joining or actively backing the right social and professional groups and taking part in events and programs that are funded.
  • Follow all business rules, methods, and internal controls when doing your job and making sure you meet all standards.

Needs and Conditions

  • B.A. in business or an area linked to agriculture, or relevant work experience
  • Ability to sell, market, and arrange terms on behalf of the organization, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the local farming and insurance markets.
  • Being able to meet all the standards for the right state insurance agent licenses

Needs That Are Preferred

  • Knowledge of farming methods and how to raise crops and animals
  • Knowing about Farm Credit rules and processes, who can get it, and what goods are available
  • A good understanding of FCIC rules and processes, including formal language
  • Being able to read, understand, and describe insurance rules and policies
