A Day in the Life:

As a Personal Lines Customer Service Agent, your daily job will involve giving information and advice to customers about insurance goods and plans. You should understand different types of personal insurance, such as car insurance, renters insurance, inland marine insurance, fire insurance for homes, umbrella insurance, insurance for leisure vehicles, travel trailers, boats, motorcycles, and flood insurance. This includes basic understanding of the laws and rules for each product and the specific insurance coverage that matches what the customer needs.

Every day, you will fill out insurance applications and necessary papers, check them for clarity and thoroughness, and send the finished documents to the right insurance companies. Always follow the procedures, processes, and tasks set by the agency.

In this job, you will need to:

  • Reaching out to current customers again.
  • Handling different service needs like extension questions, insurance changes, billing inquiries, and claims questions.
  • Delivering excellent customer service.
  • Finding and setting up new businesses.

This job needs a sales mindset, and you will need to promote both new and current goods to customers and potential customers. You will help the personal lines business succeed and meet its yearly sales and profit goals. Cross-selling and account rounding is also predicted.

You need good self-organization skills, which means being able to organize tasks and keep clear records as you work. Multi-tasking is something we do every day. A CSA-PL should act quickly to handle daily chores and respond to customer wants and requests.

This job requires working well with all areas and being a good team player. A CSA-PL has a good mood, is flexible, and is ready to assist others.

One of your main jobs is to build strong relationships with customers, adjusters, and other team members while recognizing the unique qualities each company offers.

This job answers to the Vice President of Operations.

What You Need to Do This Job:

  • You need a high school diploma or something similar, along with 1-2 years of experience working directly with customers, or a mix of education and experience that adds up to the same thing.
  • You need to have a government-issued photo ID or be ready to get one.
  • You should have or be ready to get the right insurance licenses (either Property & Casualty or Life & Health).
  • You need to keep up with continuing education and want to earn designations if you get permission.
  • Do business honestly and ethically, always acting with ethics.
  • Very reliable and quick to act.
  • Abstract thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • You should have good data entry skills and be comfortable using technology like computers, smartphones, tablets, and different software and apps. Carefully keep the Agency Management System in good condition.
  • This job usually takes place in an office but sometimes involves being outside or in different areas. You need to sit, stand, and work on a computer for long times. You need to be able to talk, hear, and type. You will often lift 20 pounds or lighter.
  • You will also need to do other tasks given by your supervisor.
